Today may have been the most amazing day in Taiwan yet! We went to Anping, a county in Tainan only about 20 minutes from where we are living. And, we weren’t even originally going to go to this place because we couldn’t find a ride! We are all so glad we went. We ended up hoping in taxis and just HOPING the drivers would understand when we said “Anping”. Luckily, all three of our taxis made it okay.
Anping is a historical site about the old military fort that used to stand in that area. There are also a TON of other things to do there. First we went to the huge temple just outside the fort. All the temples are pretty similar in their purpose but they are EVERYWHERE! We literally see a temple every few miles.
In the cab on our way to AnpingTemple at Anping
There are like a MILLION temples everywhere you look! You can see then just about every couple blocks. Its ridiculous.
Then, we went to the Anping fort and looked at everything. Most of it was a museum-like place but it was cool to look around and read all the signs about what the area represented.
We fed the fish
We're not really sure of the entire meaning of this place but it was pretty cool anyway...

Rachel got the idea that we rent bicycles and ride around town so we decided to look into it. Come to find out, Anping fort rents out bikes! Seven of us rented a bike for only $50 NT (which is only about $1.75 US Dollars) and left to see the city! We went out and ate lunch at this really cute little place (I had fried rice J) then set of to the more country area. We rode down the harbor and through the docks at the river-side then over a bridge to the other side of the river. Our goal was to get to the mouth of the river so we could go to the beach but when we got all the way over there, we couldn’t make it to the beach because it was all blocked. We decided to ride back through a really pretty park and then stop to take pictures in all the cool places we could find.

Another Daoist temple. They are EVERYWHERE!!!
7-elevens are EVERYWHERE too.
They have lots of pretty flowers
A cute teeny house we found on our way to the Tree House
Our final destination was the Anping Tree House. We were expecting a typical “treehouse” but this was definitely different. This was literally a house that was infested with a tree that has taken over. The house was abandoned over 200 years ago and the tree just grew wildly into the house and ultimately took over the walls and bricks and through the floor and everything! It was incredible!!
After the tree house, we got some orange slurpees at 7-eleven. J
Then, we went to street market to buy some souvenirs. I ended up buying two pairs of house slippers (one for Alex and one for me), an Asian fan, an lucky door hanger (with Asian coins on it), a pair of custom made shoes, a gift for Alex’s sister Erin, and a bunch of random food. We had such a blast! And I think we ended up spending about $30 for the whole day, including all the souvenirs J
