Today was very different from other days so far. We got up this morning and went to the community unit with our nurses. They showed us some REALLY boring videos in Chinese about PEG tubes. We already know about them so it was hard to watch an hour-long video in Chinese but we did just to humor them. Today, Chi Mei Hospital and all the important people involved had a signing ceremony for us with the Dean and Kris. Dean Cole was signing on for 3 more years for students to come to Taiwan and work with the nurses here. It was very interesting because everything is SO ceremonial here. They are not really strict about the etiquette of it all but they like to do but meetings and ceremonies for interesting things. The nurse that we know introduced all of us then the CEO of the hospital welcomed us then Dean Cole said a few things to everyone. They had to translate for her which is really funny because everyone laughs when we have no idea what they are saying. The ceremony was fun though. We enjoyed being there for such a great occasion. They had a session of the meeting where everyone important get each other gifts. The hospital nurses gave us each 2 CDs of the Chi Mei Hospital Orchestra. So nice!!

After the ceremony, we went back to the unit with the nurses to eat lunch. We had noodles for lunch today which were VERY VERY good! Alyssa and I shared two different types of noodles: fried rice noodles and just regular noodles. I liked the regular ones better because they were just thicker and better J We also had some crazy sweet potatoes! They were orange, yellow, and purple. They were good but I don’t really love straight sweet potatoes so I only ate a little.

Dean Cole had a presentation that we all went to.

We went home after the presentation to get ready to go to the night market. On the way, we got tsua bing (Shwa bing). It is basically shaved ice with fruit syrup and fresh fruit on it! It was SO SO SO good!! We will probably go at least twice a week the rest of the trip.

We were all very excited to go to the night market because our nurses were taking us and we could finally get out of the little area we had been in for the last few days. The nurses picked us up at our dorms and drove us down there. We met some people that were in an English club (learning English) so we decided to pair up with them and make a game out of the market. We had to do three things: eat the weirdest thing, take a picture playing a game, and take a picture of something strange.

This is a picture of all the yucky extra stuff they sell at the night market. They eat everything!

Chicken feet with Jui
They were pretty yucky. The taste isn't so bad but you are eating the chicken skin off the foot...literally off the bone. Its pretty gross.

We had to play a game and win for the game we were playing with the "English Club". Alyssa and I did shooting.

We were pretty good. We popped nearly every balloon!
Our prize

A little boy playing a game. He turned and looked at us while he was playing and got really distracted because  he realized we are American. A lot of people here do that...Everyone looks at us like we are celebrities.

The whole group

I ate flying fish eggs in Taiwan! They taste the same as in America :) I love them!
Neon tights we found

All the nurses with us students.
Four people on a scooter! So dangerous!

I bought a headband at the night market but otherwise, it was just a ton of food! The nurses would have us try something and if we liked it, they would go buy us a whole bunch of it! We had to start telling them “NO, We are full!” They finally got it J
